Latela x Artsy Exhibition: “Women in the Arts,” October-November 2020
Featured in Week 5: “Action & Existence; Activism Art & the Value of Collections”
Press Release from Latela Curatorial:
“The Latela Curatorial x Artsy: Women in the Arts Online Exhibition is a 6-week virtual exhibition featuring 102 women artists working across multiple media from DC, MD & VA.
Artworks are exhibited by themes or "viewing rooms". One viewing room will open each week, for the six weeks of the exhibition. This online exhibition’s programming includes three panel discussions a week (18 panel discussions total) and studio visits on Instagram.
The mission of this exhibition is to highlight two pools of underrepresented artists: women in the arts and artists working in and around the nation’s capital. Washington DC is known for its museums and political climate, but not for its art scene.
‘Of the 3,050 galleries in the Artsy database,10% represent not a single woman artist, while only 8% represent more women than men. Almost half represent 25% or fewer women.’ – The Global Art Market Report 2019 (Art Basel/UBS)”
My “Tears of America” canvas print and “I Thought they Were Supposed to Serve and Protect” original painting on canvas paper were featured as a part of this exhibit.
In the photo on the left is the original canvas painting of “Tears of America,” created with modeling paste, acrylic paint, paint markers, mesh, and dried acrylic paint pieces. This original piece was acquired by a private collector in 2020.
